Description NVQ Assessors are required to support people working towards National Vocational Qualifications. They need to ensure that applicants meet the standards needed to achieve these qualifications. These professionals identify skills that people have and focus on areas that they need to improve. They supervise people at work and provide feedback about standards that are not being met in their duties.Tasks NVQ Assessors usually perform many of the following tasks: • Creating reports about applicants. • Supervising people on their job • Giving advice to candidates. • Attending meetings with other professionals.• Testing candidates with non-standard situations Skills• Being able to work with candidates from different backgrounds.• Having good communication skills.• Being supportive and patient.• Being able to work alone or with a team• Having interpersonal abilities.• Being able to create accurate reports.• Having interest in helping people to develop.• Being tactful and patient.• Being able to clearly explain complex topics.

• Being well organised. Education NVQ Assessor jobs require applicants having experience and subject knowledge in the occupational sector and a Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment, Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, or Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement. External assessors will need a Level 3 External Quality Assurance Qualification and a V1 internal assessor qualification. Internal verifiers require Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice, and Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.

1 What Educational Training is required Level three qualification as Assessor D32 –D33

or A1

2 Assessor Qualifications Only.

If they have teaching or/and secretarial qualifications

that`s  fine but not essential

Qualification shown above

Proven track record in Assessor operations – plus good experience in Work Based Learning

3 Does the Job require specialist skills –

Yes – Community and Social Justice background

Experience in working in Community and Social Justice /Domestic Abuse and Working with Victims, Survivors & Witnesses fields
4 Assessment in the workplace requires Assessors to be able to supervise the Learners Work Based Learning requires the Assessor to work one-to-one with the Learner.  This requires a firm but knowledgeable attitude

to the Learner, but also a pleasant and helpful approach to the Learners needs

Additionally, all training  does, at times, be subjected to changes and the Assessor must be made aware of any of these changes and explain then in detail to the Learner

5 What personal skills are required ?  enthusiasm, initiative, team-working skills, plus an ability to train on a one-to-one basis and an ability to make decisions. Good oral and written communication skills and an ability to work with Learners, Employers, External Verifiers or other external examination officers.    Good level of presentation skills.

An ability to manage a constant and often increasing load with high demand at times and still achieve timely targets.

Ability to work effectively as a team member

Appropriate professional appearance.  Commitment to quality of service.  An ability to motivate Learners to work to time schedules.  Experience of assessing Learners.

Portfolios will be provided to a Mapping system, although Assessors together with the Learner check it all out carefully.  Ability to adopt a flexible approach to the Course progress.  Well developed organisational and administrative skills.


A full Driving Licence, access to a  car for business use and insurance for car to be used for business

6 Are there any unusual job requirements [ eg evening/week-end duties Attendance at Networking events and Company Standardisation and General Meetings
